If there is any constant rule about our event industry, it’s that there is no constant rule about our industry! Trying to plan or second guess what will be popular or to catch a trend is almost impossible. At the moment, and for no obvious reason, we are experiencing multiple bookings for the same or at least very similar events.
The last four weeks are a great example. We have delivered significant numbers of boomwhacker events, with a deluge of enquiries and confirmed events with these wonderfully versatile plastic tubes.
Even today, we had another boomwhacker confirmation to transform a conference into a sea of harmony and colour. I suppose in these times of budget awareness this particular activity ticks all the boxes, with maximum fun, great energy and integrated business messages while requiring only one facilitator (carrying the suspicious big bags)!
I personally have been to Vienna, Wales, all over London and all around the home counties sporting my oversized bags packed with musical potential. We even had an enquiry from Bristol Zoo last week. “Would the noise of the boomwhackers disturb the sensitive flamingos that nest just outside the proposed activity room?”, we were asked. Luckily, these instruments are so quiet that I knew for certain that our feathered friends would hear nothing.
Now, in a blink of an eye, it’s all changing. Looking at the diary, there is a new wave as we progress into weeks dominated by One Voice singing events. Next Thursday, we have a team building singing event in Chester for 600 participants and another in the USA. We will literally be singing across the Atlantic to each other!
We have four separate One Voice facilitation teams, which consist of West End musical directors and accomplished musicians. Over the next month, they will be working across the UK and other countries to transform clients into choirs and pop bands.
The constant change is what makes our segment of the event industry never dull. We just never know what events will be booked and in what numbers.
As you might have noticed, we have added many new events to the website over the past months, especially outdoor events. As the weather gets better and the thought of outdoor activities becomes a sensible proposition, it will be very interesting to see what becomes popular.
While the demand for different types of events change, there are constants in our work, which are the smiles and laughter of our participants. These are the things we are most proud of. We have photographs running into the thousands of company after company, and team after team, crying with laughter and having a great time.
Whatever activities will be in demand and ‘current’ over the coming months – and rest assured we have new event ideas coming too – I can confidently predict that we will continue to witness scenes of outrageous fun and great entertainment. Fun never seems to go out of fashion!
