It’s way beyond time that I formally welcome Kelly Charter to the Creative Team Events team. Kelly has been with us for nearly three months now and brings the spark of youth as well as lots of new practical ideas and superfast office efficiency! Here – in her own words – is Kelly to say hello and to tell a little bit about herself and her work with Creative.
“When asked at the age of 18, “What do you want to be?” most teenagers do not know. In contrast, I’ve known for a long time! With a creative nature and a huge passion for making memorable moments for people, events management has always been my desired vocation.”
“As part of my undergraduate degree in events management, I undertook a placement with Marriott Hotels as a Supervisor in Conferencing and Banqueting. I loved the experience, working with friendly people, meeting a variety of clients and being able to turn clients’ requirements into amazing events.”
“After graduating from university, I had the great pleasure of coordinating the 2013 Brains Eden Gaming Festival, which helped develop my skills, through a variety of activities including programme planning, marketing development and managing accommodation.”
“Then, I joined Creative Team Events. My job is not like any other that I have had and is definitely far from ordinary! A ‘typical’ day might include having my face painted like a zombie, travelling anywhere in the UK or getting strange looks from cashiers when buying 300 measuring jugs. I suppose that you could sum up the role as being flexible and doing whatever is needed to delight our clients.”
“The very first activity that I went to observe was a Thriller event. I was a little sceptical as to whether people would join in, dress up or have their face painted. However, absolutely everyone was game! Hearing howling laughter and receiving heartfelt appreciation from participants and clients are the reasons I joined the events industry in the first place.”
“After experiencing several events, I have come to realise the importance of facilitation. Each of our head facilitators is expert at winning everyone on his or her side and leading them into doing things that they would never have imagined!”
“As I have grown into my role, learning office processes, producing client proposals and creating bespoke events, I can say hand on heart that I’ve been truly enjoying my time here.”
“I look forward to chatting with you or seeing some of you on up-and-coming events!”
Thank you Kelly. As most people in our industry would agree, working in events means a very varied job description!
