It’s been nearly two years now since I first started heading up events and six years since I started working for Creative Team Events. Over that time, I have experienced many different facilitators leading events and have witnessed a wide range of styles.
I’ve been lucky to experience a dozen or more facilitators leading groups. This has enabled me to really grasp what’s important but also see how different individuals bring their own style and personality to the table. Now, as a Head Facilitator myself, I look to mix my heart and passion for drumming, rhythm and events with my ongoing experience of what really makes an event a success. This brings me on to two special rhythm events that I have headed up this past week, which demonstrate the imagination and diversity of events we work on.
Last week, I arrived at the location for a Junk Funk event, which was an early evening surprise for 60 guests. As I arrived at the gates, the guard directed me with phrases that included “past the race track”, “left of the passenger jet” and “directly opposite the Concord”. He was not wrong! As I pulled the van up to the venue door, directly opposite sat a Concord, which the guests had a simulator experience in later in the evening. Our job was to pretend to be workmen in the wrong location. After entering the room of clients in complete confusion, we burst into a junk rhythmical performance as seen in shows such as Stomp. As soon as we had finished that unexpected entrance to welcome everyone, we revealed an array of junk instruments. These were to be used to turn our unsuspecting audience into an orchestra of rhythms, ending in a performance that they wouldn’t forget in a hurry!
Another event last week was in a zoo. After being escorted through the zoo by a fun looking buggy and after seeing the incredible Capybara (the largest rodent in the world), I parked the van outside the beautiful Manor House before unloading 70 drums into a room that was themed like a jungle. Stood in front of me, emerging from trees and plants, was a large model elephant and a zebra. The day’s event was aptly called “It’s a Jungle Out There”. James and I filled the room with African drums ready for our unsuspecting participants to enter after their morning conference. The events was fantastic! Delegates were bursting with energy and the theming of the room mixed with the sound of African drums and multi-departmental rhythms made for an explosive atmosphere. People were on their feet, delivering solo performances in front of the whole group and creating their own unique music with great results.
That’s a little insight into a week in the life of a Head Facilitator. We run events in all types of locations and cater for whatever people ask for and want to create. It’s so rewarding and a pleasure to facilitate these events with clients and organisations. The events are always a great success and I thank all the clients I’ve worked with so far for trusting me to give them an experience they will never forget!
