Today, we had a fun-filled and action-packed afternoon with 40 managers who were put through a series of quick-fire team activities based around football team strategy. With a brief to include collaboration, lots of fun and the metaphor of football, we set about creating tabletop activities that would create as much hilarity and entertainment as possible.
Built around our popular Office Olympics format, each table had to complete specially chosen team challenges. Linking each underlying objective with our client’s football theme was a hit.
Our participants got stuck straight in and, against the stopwatch, started gaining as many points as they could.
Each of our four rounds contained things to be designed, constructed rehearsed and delivered to win. Our very own Kelly acted as the roving judge, keeping an eye on how well people interacted and solved each problem.
I was half referee and half compere. It was my duty to quickly explain each new task and keep everyone to time.
The venue itself was the wonderful Ricoh Arena in Coventry, and our room looked out over the vast 32,609-seat stadium.
It wasn’t until we broke for coffee that some people in the room noticed a solitary football on the penalty spot way down below on the pitch.
It was time to explain that the finale challenge would be to go down onto the pitch and try to score penalties against a real professional goalkeeper!
Everyone got to run out through the tunnel onto the pitch and headed over to the goal. This is a very unique experience that the Ricoh events team offers, and has to be every aspiring footballer’s dream.
Each team had multiple attempts to beat the professional goalie and we even had some successes! We reassembled back in the room for the overall winning scores, prize giving and to wrap up the afternoon.
This team building event format was a great combination of our popular activities and the unique opportunities provided by the venue.
I’d like to say a big ‘well done’ to our participants (who were committed for the entire afternoon), Kelly for organising the event and to the Ricoh events team.
